In a show of unity across state/territory borders, three leading epilepsy organisations: Epilepsy WA, Epilepsy Action Australia, and The Epilepsy Centre (SA & NT), have joined forces to launch Step 4 Epilepsy, a national awareness and fundraising campaign aimed at improving the lives of the 270,000 Australians living with epilepsy.
More than just a fundraiser, Step 4 Epilepsy represents a powerful movement of collaboration and community. The campaign invites Australians from all walks of life to step up, speak out, and show their support for those affected by epilepsy.
“This partnership is built on a simple but powerful idea: we are stronger together,” said Emma Buitendag, CEO of Epilepsy WA. “By combining our resources, networks, and expertise, we can amplify our impact for people with epilepsy, no matter where they live in Australia.”
The campaign is designed to be inclusive, accessible, and engaging. Participants are encouraged to take creative steps, whether walking, running, dancing or hopping to raise awareness and funds. Every action contributes to a shared goal: improving services, support, and education for people living with epilepsy.
“Epilepsy doesn’t discriminate. It affects people of all ages and backgrounds,” said Carol Ireland, CEO of Epilepsy Action Australia. “This campaign is about coming together across states and organisations to take meaningful steps toward change.”
Funds raised through Step 4 Epilepsy will directly support initiatives such as nurse helplines, seizure alert device loans, peer support groups, and community outreach programs.
Robyn Wakefield, CEO of The Epilepsy Centre, added: “We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has already registered, donated, or shared the campaign. If you haven’t yet, now is the perfect time to get involved. Small steps can have a big impact.”
