Epilepsy Action Australia and Nabu AI Partner to Transform the Epilepsy Care Journey

Co-designing bespoke features on the Nabu platform built specifically for the epilepsy community, putting the right tools in the hands of individuals, families, carers and clinicians to own their care journey.

Epilepsy Action Australia, the nation’s leading epilepsy support organisation, today announced a strategic partnership with Nabu AI to co-design, pilot and validate the Nabu platform as a comprehensive solution for individuals navigating the complex care journey of epilepsy. The partnership will address critical needs across healthcare settings, the home and the broader community.

Epilepsy affects an estimated 270,000 Australians, with the broader impact reaching millions more when families, carers, educators and service providers are included. The economic cost to the Australian economy is estimated at more than $12 billion annually, driven by missed and redundant medical interventions, significant employment productivity losses, and the growing strain placed on home and family-based supports. These are precisely the challenges the Nabu platform has been designed to address.

Developed from deep experience in complex and critical care, Nabu is a rigorously co-designed digital health platform built to meet people where they are, giving individuals, families, carers and clinicians the right information, at the right time, in the right place. The platform supports the full care continuum – from clinical consultations and medication management, to transitions at schools and social programs, through to the often-invisible burden carried by families coordinating care and managing daily life at home. In doing so, Nabu functions as a true person-centred, ‘all of health’ solution for people living with complex care needs.

The partnership will focus on the unique and often stressful transition points that define the epilepsy journey moments where the right support can make a profound difference for individuals and the people around them. The Nabu platform supports seamless communication and coordination not only within healthcare settings, but across every part of a person’s life: school, social programs, family networks and the community.

“At Epilepsy Action Australia, we are constantly exploring how innovation, including AI, can meaningfully improve the lives of people living with epilepsy. What stands out in our partnership with Nabu is its focus on supporting the whole care network—ensuring individuals, families, carers and clinicians have access to the right information at the right time. This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to addressing the real-world challenges of epilepsy care and empowering people to feel more confident, connected and in control throughout their journey.”

Quote: Steve Lewis, Founder & CEO, Nabu AI
“Nabu was born from the primary caregiver experience to bridge the communication gaps at home, in the clinic and in the community. For people living with epilepsy, consistent care and detailed tracking are vital to refining treatments and routines. Through our partnership with Epilepsy Action Australia, Nabu will now incorporate epilepsy care specific features including enabling families to easily find and verify Epilepsy Action-trained professionals, while streamlining access to critical resources that improve the care journey. We don’t focus on the pathology; we focus on ensuring the entire care network always has the exact same information, delivering better, more connected care outcomes for families and communities. It has been an honour to spend time with the Epilepsy Action Australia team, and we look forward to this collaboration reaching those individuals and families needing support.”

The partnership between Nabu and Epilepsy Action Australia is supported by Professor Terence O’Brien, one of Australia’s foremost epilepsy clinicians, who has acknowledged Nabu platform’s clinical rigour and its potential to meaningfully improve outcomes for people living with epilepsy. Professor O’Brien is a past President of the Epilepsy Society of Australia, Program Director of Alfred Brain at Alfred Hospital, Director of Neurology at Alfred Hospital, and a Professorial Fellow at the University of Melbourne.

The co-design and pilot program has commenced with findings to be used to validate the platform’s impact across the full epilepsy care journey. Further details will be announced in the coming weeks.
