Difficulties with memory is among the most common complaints of people with epilepsy. For some, there is little or no impact on memory or thought process. However, for many people with epilepsy, memory is affected in some way.
Memory problems may be directly related to the seizures, for instance, the period of time during and after a seizure, but for many, memory and thinking ability can be permanently affected by seizures or their treatment, which can affect day to day life. Those with poor seizure control can have more trouble retaining memory.
