💜 Beau’s journey 💜
Beau’s journey with epilepsy began with what seemed like innocent “staring episodes”. At the time, they were dismissed as fatigue or even post-COVID symptoms. But when his parents found him unresponsive in his highchair, they called an ambulance.
Emergency responders witnessed another “staring episode” while in transit, leading to the revelation that Beau was experiencing seizures. Without hesitation, they were whisked away to hospital.
Despite the relief of finally having answers and starting medication, their journey took an unexpected turn when Beau was diagnosed with type one diabetes, although it was established the conditions were not linked.
Enduring over 60 seizures without known triggers, tests and scans confirmed a diagnosis of childhood epilepsy with focal and tonic-clonic seizures.
Finding the right medication has meant that Beau has been seizure free for a year but the impact of his seizures remain. The hospital admissions added up to 4 months and as a result he regressed with many skills he had learned and suffered memory issues. With NDIS funding for weekly therapies, Beau has made remarkable progress. His parents couldn’t be more proud of everything he has overcome.
This March, they aim to spread awareness, offer support, and celebrate Beau’s resilience and progress every step of the way by dressing purple. Join them as they navigate this journey with unwavering strength and love. 💜✨
