People with epilepsy have a 2-3 times higher risk of premature death when compared to the general public, and sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP) is the most common cause of epilepsy related death.
ThinkGP have developed a free, online module about Reducing the risk of SUDEP.
- Part 1 of this 2-hour module contains information about SUDEP and strategies for discussing the risks of SUDEP with patients and their families.
- In part 2 you will be asked to use the SUDEP and Seizure Safety Checklist*, to assess two people with epilepsy in your practice. By completing this module, participants will be eligible for 4 RACGP CPD points / 2 ACRRM PDP hours.
*The SUDEP and Seizure Safety Checklist Project, developed in the UK, is a collaboration between SUDEP Action & Cornwall partnership NHS Foundation Trust. Epilepsy Action Australia worked in collaboration with SUDEP UK to make the Checklist available in Australia.
