Taking Care of You and Your Family
John Ashfield

Initially, this book was compiled for use by people in rural and remote areas of Australia who have little or no useful access to the kinds of counselling and psychotherapy support that people in urban centres can generally take for granted. While the book targets rural and remote Australians, it’s also helpful for other people as well. Some people may be unable to access local mental health services due to the location and cost of these services, or due to work commitments and a lack of time. This book provides useful information and practical strategies to help promote good mental health for everyone.

Physicians new to the field as well as seasoned practitioners will benefit from more than one hundred cases that explore the universe of epilepsy as it presents in daily practice. Some of these cases challenge long-held views about epilepsy and others bring the reader to the limits of our understanding of epilepsy, both in clinical and basic science. To improve the interface of clinical and basic science in epilepsy, basic scientists comment on the potential mechanisms underlying clinical observations, and clinicians assess the potential impact of recent results of experiments in the laboratory. This book highlights the importance that original observations have in inspiring both new treatments and continued research. This book provides practicing physicians with examples of how baffling cases were handled and solved.

There is a lot of information about the many issues of the illness that affect teens, including school and jobs, driving, dating, and sports. Runners ID, Cycling ID, Medical ID

Road ID was created on the concept that active people should wear ID as part of their gear when participating in outdoor activities - if there was an unexpected accident, while running or cycling, the person would be in bad shape - nobody would know who they were or who to contact.
Road ID is a durable, rugged, athletic, fashionable line of identification gear. Currently, we offer 6 different forms of ID: the FIXX ID, the Shoe ID, the Ankle ID, the Wrist ID Sport, the Wrist ID Elite, and the Shoe Pouch ID. We provide various forms of ID to allow a person to decide where they want to wear their vital Identification.
Road ID enables:
- First Responders to immediately contact family members and friends.
- Family members to provide additional details about your health or give consent for potentially life saving procedures.
- Hospital staff to locate vital medical records.
Road ID can:
- Communicate medical conditions or allergy information to medical staff.
- Prevent serious delays in treatment by saving crucial time during the “golden hour” of medical treatment.
- Save your Life. Period.

Sleepsafe pillows and seizure monitors

Sleep-Safe pillows are hand-made from a special soft, highly porous foam with an open cell structure that allows much greater 'breathability' than ordinary pillows.
The benefits of Sleep-Safe anti-suffocation pillows extend beyond helping to prevent the death or injury of a person affected by seizures.
Sleep-Safe pillows also provide reassurance to parents, partners and carers by reducing the fear of suffocation of a loved one, fear that can lead to disturbed sleep patterns, anxiety and depression, and a profound deterioration in the quality of life for the entire family.
This means that Sleep-Safe pillows also help to reduce greatly the “carer anxiety” of sleep seizures - the fear of suffocation.
This helps to put carers and patients back in control of their lives by relieving a significant cause of family stress and making management of the condition which is causing the seizures - epilepsy, stroke, aftermath of head injury, meningitis, etc - much less demanding.
DoAbility also sell a number of bed seizure monitors that can detect seizures during sleep.

Rescue Door System
The Rescue Door System allows an interior door to be opened in an alternative direction should the door become obstructed preventing it from being opened in its normal direction.
The Rescue Door System allows an individual to free a person who might be trapped behind an interior locked door.
In an emergency situation, the door can be opened in the opposite direction to quickly gain access to a person. This means that an individual, who may have collapsed behind a door, can be easily rescued. It also has further applications, for example, elderly people who may have forgotten how to unlock a door, or even children who have accidentally locked themselves in.
The Rescue Door System can be installed on all timbre and aluminium doors and can be retro-fitted to existing doorframes. A retro-fit can be obtained by purely removing existing doorjambs and hinges and installing the Rescue Door System.

Photosensitive Epilepsy Analysis Tool (PEAT)

Photosensitive seizures can be provoked by certain types of flashing in web or computer content, including mouseovers that cause large areas of the screen to rapidly flash on and off repeatedly. The Trace Center's Photosensitive Epilepsy Analysis Tool (PEAT) is a free, downloadable resource for developers to identify seizure risks in their web content and software. The evaluation used by PEAT is based on an analysis engine developed specifically for web and computer applications.
PEAT can help authors determine whether animations or video in their content are likely to cause seizures. Not all content needs to be evaluated by PEAT, but content that contains video or animation should be tested, especially if that content contains flashing or rapid transitions between light and dark background colours.

Ketogenic Menu Organiser
KMO-Home: is software used by the carers of people on the Ketogenic Diet. It helps with the organisation of the menu and the calculation of fats and calories.
KMO-Home is a feature rich application with:
- Menu Choice: is a feature that can recall menus created in the past. When the diet has been fine tuned, menu choice will automatically update the menus so it will be in accordance with the new variables.
- Make / Edit Menu: is a feature where ingredients are selected and menus are created, calculated, ingredients are substituted
- Add Food: is a feature where the user adds ingredients to the existing database, by entering the name and the nutritional information.
- Stock Food: is a feature allowing the user to create unbalanced food to be used as an ingredient in the menu calculation.
- Scheduler: is a feature where the menus are arranged for one week ahead.
- WWW: is an internet viewer, allowing the user to exchange menus, seek help and it will keep the user up-to-date with the ketogenic news
KMO-Home has a trial period for the length of time that is required to ascertain if the diet is working.
This software was written by users, it was created out of a need and although never intended to be a commercial venture, due to the demand for a better and easier way to manage the ketogenic diet, it became commercially available.
Ketogenic Menu Organiser-Professional KMO-Pro. is software used by the physician or dietician to control the administering of the Ketogenic Diet. KMO-Pro is the same as KMO-Home; however, it is used to cater for multiple patients.
It is and has been common practice to start the Ketogenic diet in a hospital, so a close eye can be held on the welfare of the patient. An unknown, underlying condition could surface requiring medical intervention during this start-up period.
In the past when ketosis had been established, keto-acidosis was a problem. This occurred presumably when the variables had not been set correct or when the diet was not calculated correctly.

Seizure Diary Software

Doctors are rarely with a patient when they have a seizure. As a result, they rely on the patient to provide information about their seizure activity. The more detailed that information is, the better doctors are at applying the appropriate seizure treatment.
That is where EpiTrax comes in. EpiTrax is an advanced seizure diary software program designed to track and analyse every pertinent detail surrounding your seizures, your medication and your possible seizure triggers. EpiTrax not only lets you record all of your seizure information, it provides you with detailed reports about your seizures that you can print and share with their doctors.
The powerful reporting in EpiTrax helps you easily search for trends in seizure activity or determine whether certain activities or events may be causing seizures, such as sleep, diet, medication changes, mood and more.
Print all the information you record and take it to your doctor’s appointment in easy–to–read reports, spreadsheets or HTML documents. Keep your seizure information in one place, where it’s easy to find, rather than having multiple notebooks with information.
Armed with this information, you and your doctor can then determine the best treatment for your long–term care.
