The Epilepsy Association of Western Australia  www.epilepsywa.org.au

The partnership between Epilepsy Action, Australia and the Epilepsy Association of Western Australia is a groundbreaking step to improve services for the approximate 17,000 Western Australians with epilepsy.

As part of our National Services strategy, we have recently entered into a formal collaboration with the Epilepsy Association of Western Australia to provide comprehensive services to people living with epilepsy in WA.

Epilepsy Action service staff are based at the same location as the Epilepsy Association of Western Australia. The two organisations are working together to address the social isolation and the inequity of care of individuals with epilepsy in rural and regional Australia. We are planning a pilot program in Western Australia which will use videoconferencing to make services and support available to those in need.

The George Foundation  www.thegeorgeinstitute.org

In August, mettings began with The George Institute. This international organisation focuses on improving global health through applying high quality research to health policy and practice. Opportunities being explored include a major research project to provide an intricate picture of life with the condition, which could ultimately help with giving people more appropriate support.

Trilby Misso  www.trilbymisso.com.au

Trilby Misso Lawyers has been working to provide legal assistance to everyday Queenslanders for over fifty years. Trilby Missio are dedicated to safe guarding and promoting justice, freedom and the rights of the individual.

Epilepsy Action and Trilby Misso have joined forces to bring Memory Workshops, an Epilepsy Action National initiative, locally to Brisbane in 2007.

Memory Workshops educate participants on memory strategies, how seizures and treatment can affect their memory, and provide an educational framework to continually support peer learning and participation.

The link between Trilby Misso and Epilepsy Action is apparent with shared values surrounding Positive Attitude, Mutual Respect, Communicate Clearly and Play as a Team. The relationship also allows for strong community involvement by bringing the Memory Workshops to Brisbane families dealing with Epilepsy so they can be educated and informed locally.

Rex Regional Express  www.rex.com.au

Rex has kindly sponsored return flights for a family of four from Parkes to Sydney enabling two boys and their parents to attend the Epilepsy Action Family Camp held in Yarramundi in May. The two young boys had never been in a plane before which added to the excitement. Thank you to Rex for their support.
