Services Across Australia

In 1952, concerned parents and interested persons founded our charity in Sydney as the Epileptic Welfare Association.

Initially our members provided mutual support to people with epilepsy and their families and worked to improve public understanding of epilepsy.

Since 1968, we have employed a growing staff of professionals to provide services, first accommodation services then, from 1981, education and guidance services.

Today, more than 100 full-time, part-time and casual staff and many more volunteers provide information, advice, specialist services, public education and support services to help people with seizure disorders. We help personally from offices in NSW, ACT and NT and via phone, fax, the Web and personal visits elsewhere in Australia.

Today, with an operating budget of over $5 million, Epilespy Action offers professional services across Australia.

Names we have used:

The Association began in 1952 as the Epileptic Welfare Association.

In 1984 we changed our name to The Epilepsy Association of NSW.

From 1 September 2000 our name has been Epilepsy Association.

Since 1969 we have been a public company limited by guarantee. Our company registration number is ACN 000 533 791 and our business registration number for tax purposes is ABN 61 000 533 791.
