What does it mean?

There are lots of reasons why people get epilepsy.

Some people get really sick causing the brain to be sick also. This can cause epilepsy later on.

Some people might have a nasty fall or car accident and hurt their head and brain very badly - needing to go to hospital.

Sometimes babies are born and they are not breathing properly, which might cause epilepsy.

Sometimes there are other people in your family with epilepsy and this means it is genetic or hereditory.

Lots of people with epilepsy never know why they get it - it just happens.

Lots of children grow out of their seizures, so they don't have them anymore when they are grown up.
