Kids with epilepsy can do most things other kids can do.

Having epilepsy does not mean you can't have fun and should stop playing with your friends.

You just need to know that sometimes, you might have to do things a little differently - like taking your medicine at the same time every day, and being more careful with some sports like riding your bike, swimming and climbing.

What you need to know is that there are some things you need to be a little bit more careful with.

1. Learn about your epilepsy and what you can do to avoid having a seizure.

2. Never swim alone - but then most people should not do that.

3. Be very careful when riding your bike. Have you got your helmet on?

4. When you go for your bath or shower let someone in the house know. A shower is better though and never lock the door. Has someone in the house made sure the water temperature is not too hot?

6. Always tell an adult where you are going. You should take care not to be somewhere you could hurt yourself if you have a seizure...

7. Be with somebody when crossing a busy street. Always cross at the lights or pedestrian crossing. In Australia always look to the right and then left and then right again. When it is safe, cross the road quickly, but never run.

8. Is your medicine somewhere safe?

9. Have you got a safety bracelet on to let people know you have epilepsy?

10. When you are having sleep-overs or camps, remember that sleep is very important when you have seizures. If you don't get enough sleep, you might have a seizure.

Remember if you know a lot about your epilepsy then there is no need to be frightened, and you can let your friends know about epilepsy too. Children with epilepsy are no different to other children -they just need a little bit more understanding.
